Wild Betta Albimarginata – Complete Guide To Keeping, Profiles, Feeding, Tank Setup, Breeding – Wild betta Albimarginata is a cool wild betta fish type found in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. They are pure endemic wild bettas from that place and are commonly found at sebuku rivers.

They generally inhabit forest streams with moderate flow water. These streams are usually very shallow, between 5-10 cm in-depth, and contain plant roots and leaf litter.

These wild betta fish types are also known as white seam fighter betta or betta strawberry. The name “Albimarginata” is from Latin, Albus meaning white and margo meaning margin. The naming is based on their white fins margin.

Profiles And Appearance: These wild bettas are elongated fish with broad mouths and large eyes. The female betta Albimarginata has a browner body-colored with red-orange fins and sometimes has a white rim on their fins.

While the male betta Albimarginata have reddish-orange bodies with white and black edging along with their fins.

Betta Albimarginata may be confused with closely related betta Channoides. The difference between them is B. Albimarginata has black and white edging on their dorsal fins, while the B. channoides only have a white edging on their fins.

Besides, the betta Channoides are more of brick red body-colored than betta Albimarginata. And the females of both groups are a bit more different in appearance.

Normally they can grow between 2.5 – 5 cm in length. They can live between 2-3 years.

Keeping And Tank Setup: The betta Albimarginata are peaceful fish, meaning they can live together with other peaceful fish species in the same tank.

You could be housing them in an individual, pairs, and community tank. A 5-gallon tank is enough to keep them in an individual. A pair of strawberry betta can be housing in a 10-gallon aquarium. And for a community tank, you can use a 20-gallon aquarium or larger.

You should add some tall or floating tropical aquatic plants, driftwood, rock, or dried leaves into the tank. It will give them some hiding or shady place because they are timid fish.

Use a gentle aquarium filtration system because, in their habitat, they inhabit sluggish water. They can live in water temperature between 23 – 28 °C, pH between 4.0 – 6.5, and hardness between 18-90 ppm.

 

Feeding: The white seam fighter betta is carnivorous. In the wild, they tend to eat small invertebrates, small insects, and zooplankton. But you can feed with fish pellets or flakes, but the best food for them is live foods, including micro worms, blood worms, and brine shrimps. It will develop their coloration and health conditions.

Breeding: Same with another Asian wild betta that is betta Rubra and betta macrostoma, these bettas also belong to the mouthbrooders. After the spawning is complete, the male betta white seam fighter will incubate the eggs on his mouth for 10-21 days.
